Social Media Stats (by Nielsen)

Where are you spending your time?
According to the report we’re a little all over the place. Take a look at the top online time-takers:

  • 22.5% social media/blogs
  • 9.8% online games
  • 7.6% email
  • 4.5% portals
  • 4.4% videos/movies
Surprisingly, search was only 4% of the time. Goes to show, times they are a-changing!
Not so surprisingly, 35.1% of our time was categorized as “other.” Things like online shopping and pornography fall into this category!
Girls, girls, girls
Women reign supreme on almost all social sites .
Maybe it’s because we’re more interested in connecting? May it’s because we’re the savvier sex? Either way, young, educated women are logging on at a fast pace.
Going Mobile
More and more people are logging online using their phones — it’s fast, convenient and portable.
As mobile technology gets better and better and more and more companies offer mobile features, mobile online access is bound to continue its upward trajectory. As a matter of fact, app use has increased 30% in the last year.
These are the top 4 mobile features people value most:
  1. GPS – 56%
  2. Social networking – 30%
  3. Music – 26%
  4. Web browsing – 26%
These are just the highlights, but Nielsen has tons more info in its State of Social Media Report.

About Donna Queza

I'm an optimist grounded in realism. That's what I love about working on the web -- the possibilities to be creative and distinctive are endless, but there's always a need for those reality-driven, data-fueld folks who make our dreams into realities. I like to think I hover somewhere in the middle - creative, quantifiable internet marketing solutions.
