I just came across a concept that I simply love. For years, marketers (and other professionals) have spent time crafting long, informative e-books and whitepapers for the public to download for free. There are lots of benefits to these books, including positioning oneself as an industry expert and generous giver of information. Oftentimes, downloaders are required to plug in some generic contact information and are added to an email database.
Although these books often offer great value, its time, labor and cost intensive to promote these free giveaways. But, what if you could get your site visitors to promote your e-book for you? That’s where Pay with a Tweet comes in.
Instead of offering free content and letting your downloaders sneak off into the sunset, Pay with a Tweet allows you to offer your content for the cost of a Tweet (or Facebook update). So, promotion virtually takes care of itself.

I wonder how this idea can be developed further? With sites like Klout determining social influence, I wouldn’t be surprised if that influence will eventually translate into currency. What do you think?
