The Other Guys – Plancast

In an attempt to shed a little light and spread a little love to social networks outside of Facebook and Twitter, I’m blogging about some of “the other guys.” Last week I focused on Pinterest, this week let’s take a look at Plancast.

According to the website, “Plancast is the best way to discover events and share plans with friends. It lets you know about the events your friends plan to attend as well as other cool events coming up in your area.”

This site is great for a couple of reasons.

For people starting out in an industry:
Follow the people who influence you and your industry to find out what meetings and events they’re attending. You can also track the categories that interest you in your area. For instance, I’m getting updates from the “technology” and “startups” categories.

For planners:
Post your events on the site and watch them go viral. If you’re hosting a public event or a large industry conference, you want people to be able to quickly and easily share the details. Plancast lets your attendees share the wealth with their Facebook and Twitter followers.

For the social savvy:
I love networks like this because they allow you to benefit from the hard work you’ve already put in on other sites. You can “find friends” from Facebook and Twitter and follow the events that they’re attending. This helps you track your personal and professional networks in one place.

Overall, Plancast is a good way to find out about the influx of professional and personal events that are taking place in your area. The site even exports your plans to a spreadsheet or directly into your calendar, so that you don’t have to go to multiple places to see what your day holds. Planners and partiers alike should take a little time to check out Plancast.
